SCULPTRA®: Post Treatment Instructions

Post Treatment

Bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness may occur in the treatment area. Swelling, redness, and tenderness may last for several days, while bruising may last 1–2 weeks. Not all patients experience these symptoms, but please note that they can occur and are common after treatment. Most side effects resolve within one week. Please contact our office if you experience itching or symptoms that persist beyond 2 weeks.

The treatment site may appear uneven, distorted, or firm as a result of swelling. This is normal and typically resolves within one week. If these symptoms persist beyond this time, please contact our office.

An ice pack may be applied to the treatment area to help reduce swelling within the first 24 hours after treatment. Apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the treated area for a few minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly to the skin.

You will receive instructions regarding where to massage the treated area. Unless otherwise directed by your provider, massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after treatment.

Concealer may be used to cover bruising after treatment; however, effectiveness may vary depending on skin type and application.

Most patients can resume normal activities after treatment.

You may gently cleanse the treated area with a mild cleanser after 6 hours.

For bruising, bleeding, and swelling, Arnica montana may be helpful when used as a topical gel or oral tablet. If appropriate for you, use as directed on the product label or as instructed by your provider.

Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple, may also help minimize bruising and swelling. If appropriate for you, take as directed on the product label or as instructed by your provider.
